South Carolina’s Most Advanced Pain Management Treatment Facility

Most pain management procedures required on patients treated at the Foothills Regional Pain Center are performed at the Upstate Pain Management and Surgery Center. Located in Seneca, this facility is the first fully licensed ambulatory surgery center in South Carolina, and one of few in the nation to be developed primarily for the treatment of patients with chronic pain and pain related medical problems. This state-of-the-art 7,300 square foot facility offers advanced equipment and resources not available elsewhere in the region, including diagnostic discography and laser disc decompression for the evaluation and non-surgical treatment of herniated disc. With two operating suites, two large procedure rooms, and a five-bed patient recovery unit, our capabilities exceed any other pain management treatment facility in the region. The facility participates in all regional insurance plans including Medicare, Medicaid, Champus/Tricare, Aetna/US Healthcare, Cigna, Companion, Medcost, and BC/BS. In addition, we maintain adequate reserves to allow for the care of indigent patients with proper documentation of income and resources. Our goal is that no patient be denied needed Pain Management services solely for financial reasons. The ambulatory surgical center setting allows for conscious sedation and general anesthesia when needed for patient comfort, with full monitoring of all vital functions to enhance patient safety. Staff members come from a variety of medical and surgical backgrounds and receive additional specialized training in the management of patients with pain problems

Pain specialists at the Foothills Regional Pain Center have earned a national reputation for excellence in the evaluation and treatment of advanced pain problems, and continue to make important contributions to the field. In collaboration with Drs. Daniel S.J. Choy and Arpad Fejos of Columbia University, Dr. Marion McMillan of the Center introduced laser disc decompression to the Carolinas and Georgia for the non-surgical treatment of herniated disc and sciatica in 2003. Our accomplishments and professional services have been well publicized in the local news media with important coverage of recent advances in the treatment of spinal pain . The Center has recently contributed several important academic papers to the medical literature in the area of pain management, and further contributions are expected in the future.
